Kitchen Coordinator Position

Location: Vathy, Samos, Greece


Our kitchen is the centre of Project Armonia. Our chefs cook food packed with vital nutrients, with recipes from their home countries, offering our guests a familiar taste of home in a foreign place. 

We are looking for someone to join our hardworking, tight-knit, international team to help coordinate our daily operations.

Your job will include:

  • Ensuring our daily dishes are nutritious, healthy and delicious
  • Organising the chefs’ schedule
  • People management, supervision and evaluation of volunteers
  • Motivating the kitchen team
  • Improving kitchen efficiency and food variety
  • Organizing cooking training to improve volunteers’ cooking skills/ hygiene skills
  • Liaising with local suppliers including ordering and inventory
  • Accounting and budgeting 
  • Monitoring the general upkeep of the kitchen and the equipment, ensuring volunteers use all equipment safely and correctly and follow hygiene procedures
  • Responsibility of all renovations and maintenance of the kitchen


  • Minimum 25 years of age
  • Minimum 6 month commitment period 
  • Fluency in English
  • Trained chef and kitchen management experience
  • HACCP/ hygiene training 
  • 5 days of quarantine mandatory and rapid test, unless fully vaccinated

Desired Skills & Characteristics:

  • Greek language skills preferable but not essential
  • Experience in a community kitchen 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • People management skills and experience in working with refugees and asylum seekers
  • Sound decision-making ability 
  • Highly flexible and adaptable 
  • Ability to identify and resolve conflicts
  • Extensive knowledge of basic programmes such as Microsoft Excel and Word

The majority of our volunteers are from the local refugee community but we also welcome some volunteers from elsewhere who are keen to join our hardworking, close-knit team.

As a volunteer with Project Armonia you could find yourself working in the kitchen helping to provide nourishing food to over 1,100 refugees and asylum seekers each day; Helping us to keep our restaurant clean and running smoothly; Supporting coordinators with admin work; Welcoming guests or working behind the scenes helping us spread the word about our work and the situation on Samos.
